An association Obecní dům Brno was established in 1991 and among its members are mainly practising architects from Brno and Prague.
Since the beginning of its activity Obecní dům Brno has focused on introducing works of significant Czech and Central European architects. Their production has been presented by means of exhibitions in the Gallery of Architecture in Brno, the same exhibitions have been frequently repeated in the Fragner gallery in Prague.
Since 1998 Obecní dům annually holds an exhibition concerning the "golden era" of Brno's modern architecture of the 1920's and 1930's. These exhibitions are always accompanied by comprehensive catalogues, which have been lauded not only in our country but also abroad (see the two reviews from the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung on the right).
In 2001 apart from the historical editorial series, a new exhibition and editorial project focused on contemporary Czech and European architecture was launched. The first publication of this new editorial series is "Litomyšl and contemporary architecture", in 2002 there will be a publication Obecní dům Brno 1997 - 2002. In the following years the publication will focus on foreign architects as well.
All the published and upcoming publications are bilingual (Czech - English) with a great number of original period pictures and snaps of the top contemporary Czech photographers of architecture.
