Jan Víšek - Husův sbor

JAN VÍŠEK
1890 - 1966

Jan Víšek was an entirely solitary personality in the context of Brno and Czech architecture in the second quarter of the twentieth century. Being one of the first local architects working with modern aesthetics, he was exceptional for his homogeneity of work, which was based, on one hand, on his consistent thinking about the pressing problems of architecture and, on the other hand, on detachment and moderation founded on a belief in the classical art of the building principles, where his classicism had its roots. His ideology was roofed over by the purist aesthetics.
The aim of this publication is to emphasize the exceptional role of Jan Víšek in the history of Czech modern art of the building. This monograph also sets out to confront Víšek's purist minimalism with similar trends in the architecture of this time.
